英國不只官邸有貓，隔壁外交部也養了一隻黑白雙色外交貓「帕默斯頓」（Palmerston）。帕默斯頓原是街頭浪浪，2歲時被英國外交及國協事務部選中，晉升為「外交部首席捕鼠大臣」，牠的名字「帕默斯頓」便是取自19世紀外交大臣的爵位稱號。

據說，帕默斯頓捕老鼠的能力，遠遠超過隔壁的英國第一貓「賴瑞」（Larry），上任兩年就捕捉了57隻老鼠，大勝賴瑞的30隻老鼠和1隻白鴿。只可惜帕默斯頓再怎麼勤勞，名聲一直遠不如賴瑞，甚至長期遭到賴瑞挑釁與欺負，英國媒體多次拍到兩貓鬥毆畫面。

不過帕默斯頓也不是好惹的，2016年傳出賴瑞腳掌受傷的消息，聽說就是這名外交貓做的好事。有一次，雙貓打到連官邸保安人員都看不下去，最後只好出手將帕默斯頓強制抱走，才讓兩貓達成「休戰協議」。

然而，從去年至今，帕默斯頓也漸漸「賴瑞化」，身材越來越圓，工作效率也越來越差，外交部常務次長甚至下令要帕默斯頓減肥，禁止員工私自餵牠吃零食。不只如此，帕默斯頓行事作風變得大膽，據說還曾試圖闖進唐寧街10號官邸，最後被門衛無情驅趕。

官邸易主後，帕默斯頓坐在外交部門口，似乎也想迎接新主人，不過這個姿勢更像老闆等待員工吧！帕默斯頓的推特頁面上面甚至寫道，「我已經詳細介紹了我的食物擺在哪裡、每天要侍奉我多少次、鏟屎官的清砂任務，以及所有人類不能坐的地方......忙死我了，今日剩下的17小終於可以躺下。」
